Experience the motor torpedo boats
The motor torpedo boats were equipped with two 53.4 cm torpedoes at the stem, a 20 mm quick-firing gun midship as well as four machineguns. However, the weapon and other larger articles were removed by the Germans before they sunk the boats with explosives.
As regards the engine, the boats featured three 16-cylinder Mercedes-Benz diesel engines of each 2,500 hp. In other words, a total engine power of nearly 7,500 hp! They could make a speed of 36 knots and had special effect rudders, which made the boat rise up and, thus, achieve the impressive speed of 38 knots.
The marine fauna on and around the wrecks is limited; however, during the winter months, you can see beautiful nudibranchs. The fact that the marine fauna is limited is not vital as the wrecks have plenty else to offer. Many details on the wrecks are still visible, such as hatches, engine parts, bannisters, tubes, torpedo tubes, bitts and much more.
The shallow waters – a maximum of 10 metres, mean that all divers can participate. However, one should be aware of the very soft bottom, which will ruin visibility if touched. For this reason, you need to control your upward movement.
The four wrecks are found within a one-square-kilometre area and you can easily dive on three in one day. You can dive on the wrecks all year round and even though some are partly deteriorated, and others lack torpedo tubes, they are interesting to explore.
